Artist’s Statement

For this assignment I was tasked with creating a collection using four materials. I chose clay, paper pulp, copper wire, and hot glue. I was inspired by these artists to create intricate and fragile pieces. The pieces I created consisted of small individual pieces tied together with the copper wire. The next challenge was discovering an aesthetically pleasing way to display the collection I had created. Inspired by Cornelia Parker’s 30 pieces of Silver  I decided to hang my collection from the ceiling with fishing line in a circle. This resulted in a visually interesting piece because all of the small sculptures create interesting negative space. I also decided to suspend them at eye level over a white pillar to extend the sculpture from floor to ceiling. It is both fragile and statuesque.
